Plants vs Brainrots Mutation Machine & XP System Guide

The Mutation Machine is one of the most important systems in Plants vs Brainrots. It lets you mutate plants or brainrots, merge identical mutations, and extract XP to power up your progress. If you’re confused about how to actually use it or how the XP conversion works, this guide will walk you through every step — from basic usage to efficient XP farming.

What the Mutation Machine Does

The Mutation Machine has two key functions:

  1. Mutation & merging — combining two identical mutated plants or brainrots to create stronger variants.
  2. XP extraction — converting spare or unused plants into XP bottles that can be reused for future merges.

Both are essential for long-term progression, especially during mutation-based events like Merge Madness.

How to Use the Mutation Machine

Step 1: Open the Machine

Find the Mutation Machine in your base or event hub. You’ll see two main sections:

  • Mutation Chamber (for merging plants/brainrots)
  • Plant Extractor (for converting plants into XP)

Step 2: Place a Plant or Brainrot

Insert any plant or brainrot that already has a mutation.

  • Normal (non-mutated) plants won’t work here.
  • You’ll see the item appear in the machine once selected.

This shows that the mutation is ready for combination or extraction.

Step 3: Extract XP

On the right side, you’ll find the XP Extractor.

  • Place unwanted plants into the extractor to convert them into XP bottles.
  • The more plants you insert, the more XP you’ll gain.
  • Once done, click Claim to receive an XP Bottle item.

Tip: XP bottles can be stored and used anytime, so don’t waste rare mutated plants — only use extras or weak ones for extraction.

Step 4: Add XP to the Machine

Once you’ve earned XP bottles, place them into the Mutation Machine.
You’ll see the machine status change to “Ready”, meaning it now has enough energy to perform a mutation or merge.

Step 5: Combine Mutated Plants or Brainrots

Now that the machine is charged, you can start merging mutations.

Requirements:

  • You must place two identical plants or brainrots, both already mutated.
Example: Two Frozen Cactus or two Neon Sunflowers.
  • The base type and mutation type must both match.

Once placed correctly, the Mixing Process begins automatically.

Step 6: Wait for the Merge (or Skip It)

Merging takes time — you’ll see a countdown timer while the machine mixes.
If you want instant results, you can spend Robux to skip the timer.

After completion, you’ll receive a new mutated variant, usually of higher rarity or strength.

Example:
Combining a Golden Orca Carlla and an Upside-Down Orca Carlla can yield an upgraded or fusion mutation.

Understanding the XP System

  • XP Bottles are the “fuel” for the Mutation Machine.
  • Each merge consumes a certain amount of XP to complete successfully.
  • You can stockpile XP Bottles and use them when working on multiple merges back-to-back.

Efficient XP farming tip:
Use common plants for extraction — they’re cheap, quick to grow, and give consistent XP when processed in bulk.

Efficient Mutation Strategy

  1. Farm duplicates. You need identical mutations for merges, so focus on spawning or growing multiples of the same mutated type.
  2. Save your rare mutations. Don’t use rare or event-exclusive ones for extraction — use only commons or unwanted variants.
  3. Batch process plants. Always fill the extractor completely before claiming XP bottles to maximize output.
  4. Stock XP before events. Merge-based events often require multiple merges in a short time. Having XP ready saves a lot of downtime.
  5. Keep an inventory tracker. Sort your plants by mutation type to quickly find matching pairs when merging.
