The Severed Spine is one of the newest and rarest limited plants added to Grow A Garden, and unlocking it isn’t as simple as planting a few seeds. To earn it, you’ll need to complete the Reaper Ritual, which requires teamwork, specific mutated plants, and some careful coordination with your server.
If you’re trying to get your own Severed Spine, here’s a full breakdown of how the process works and what to expect once you unlock it.
To even begin the path toward the Severed Spine, you’ll first need to complete the Reaper Ritual event.
This ritual is a server-wide cooperative challenge, meaning you can’t do it entirely solo — you’ll need help from other players in the same server.
During the ritual, you’ll notice several bowls or altars placed around the ritual area.
Each one requires a specific type of Reaper plant, often with unique mutations attached.
The main objective here is to gather the correct plants that the ritual asks for.
Each required bowl must have a matching Reaper plant placed on it.
If even one of the bowls is missing the right plant or mutation, the ritual won’t complete.
The plants and mutations needed can vary depending on the event rotation, but you’ll typically need:
Since the ritual depends on cooperation, coordinate with your server members — players usually share which plants they’re placing to avoid duplicates or wasted efforts.
Once every required bowl has the correct Reaper plant with its mutation, the Reaper Ritual will activate.
When it finishes, everyone who helped participate in the ritual will receive the Severed Spine seed as a reward.
That’s your cue to plant it and see your hard work pay off.
After unlocking the seed, you can finally grow and showcase your Severed Spine plant.
Here’s what we currently know about its stats and performance:
While those numbers might sound decent, the community consensus (and the YouTuber who showcased it) agrees that it’s not particularly powerful compared to top-tier plants.
However, what makes it special is its limited-time status — meaning once the event ends, it may never return.
So even if it’s not the strongest, it’s absolutely worth collecting for rarity and bragging rights.
The Severed Spine might not be a powerhouse plant, but its unlock process through the Reaper Ritual makes it one of the most interesting event items in Grow A Garden.
It rewards teamwork, patience, and a little bit of grinding — and since it’s limited, collectors shouldn’t miss out.
If you want to stand out in the garden with something that most players won’t have once the event ends, this is your shot.
